Founded in December 2023, the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers at Central South University is an independent entity dedicated to the education of master’s and doctoral engineering students, focusing on the integration of industry and education, integration of science and education, and interdisciplinary research. On September 27, 2024, Central South University was officially approved as a national construction unit for the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers.

Responding to major national strategic needs, the College builds on Central South University’s distinctive and world-leading disciplinary strengths in non-ferrous metals, medicine, and rail transit. It collaborates with a group of leading new energy enterprises closely affiliated with Central South University, such as BYD and GEM, as well as major central state-owned enterprises including China Minmetals and Aluminum Corporation of China Limited. These partnerships drive interdisciplinary integration and foster interdisciplinary clusters such as "New Energy Plus" and "Artificial Intelligence Plus". On this basis, the College will further develop higher-level and broader disciplinary clusters, achieving coordinated growth between emerging disciplines and traditional advantageous disciplines.

By integrating Central South University’s high-quality educational resources with the superior industrial resources of its council enterprises, the College has established a "Four Connections" training mechanism: connected teaching faculties, connected curricula, connected platforms, and connected policies. It also implements a "Four Commons" operation mechanism: joint student recruitment, joint training, joint research topic selection, and joint achievement ownership between universities and enterprises.

The College has built engineering technology centers through independent university construction, university-enterprise cooperation, and government-university collaboration, effectively drawing on real engineering projects from enterprises. It integrates scientific research, theoretical knowledge, and practical training, enabling students to participate deeply in enterprise scientific and technological innovation and research and development. In authentic engineering environments, students tackle real problems and deliver tangible results. This has formed a new paradigm for cultivating outstanding engineering talents featuring university-enterprise collaboration with "whole-chain design, all-factor allocation, and full-process training".
